I mentioned at the end of last season I would be cutting back on my sports blogging. I still have an interest in the Blazers progress and was intrigued by their lonely draft pick, Jake Layman. From a numerical point of view, it appears that Jake’s agent pretty much hit it on the nail. He has “minimal risk for the investment, and maximum potential upside”.

A quick summation is to say that he could show some unexpected skills and meld into the rotation sooner than many expect. This looks like a combination that could work well with CJ particularly. It shows a controlled exterior, but a lot of aggressiveness hidden within. He will learn quickly and adapt creative moves to make up for some lacks of natural ability.
