The beginning student of numerology often has many questions regarding the change of a name and the numerological implications. The full name at birth along with the date of birth is the natal chart very much like the date of birth is the natal chart for astrology. The full name at birth remains the underlying foundation and does not go away with the use of a different name later in life. The numbers of the integrated self, soul, and personality remain a present influence. You can put on different garments to change appearance, but who you really are still remains underneath. Taking on a new name is like adding an overlay upon the individual’s identity. It places emphasis upon a different set of vibrational patterns.
The change of name does have a major impact, and its ramifications should be taken into serious consideration. When you change the name, for whatever reason, you do change the vibration pattern emanated. You might argue what if the new combination of numbers is exactly the same as the natal name! It does occasionally happen that a nickname or married name does indeed turn out to be the same. That is, the three numbers of the consonants, vowels and combined letters may come out the same. However, neither the amount of letters in the new name, nor the arrangement of letters in the new name are ever very likely to be the same as the natal name itself. It is important not to lose sight of the parts of the whole, as well as the whole itself.
Recent university studies have shown that people react to names in a different manner. For example, they respond differently to Jimmy rather than James. They expect different behavior from Janet than from Peggy Sue. The academic researcher may provide theories as to why this is true, but it does pretty much come back to vibration.
The change of name to a nickname, entertainment name, or married name does change the vibration. However, it does not eliminate the presence of the natal influence below. When changing a name it can be important to consider these underlying vibrational patterns along with your desired goal.
Throughout my career I have often been consulted by thousands of movie and television personalities, organizations, artists, singers, businesses, and people from all walks of life, who want to know the numerical vibration of the new name they are considering for use. The first rule when creating a new name is that the name stands on its own. That is, if it is going to be for promotion or positive results, it must have a “ring” to it that produces a positive response in the given social context. In other words, numerology cannot make up for an ill chosen name.
When working with a client to determine a name, I try to get to the real motive and intent of the client. We work together to get a name that is both numerically appropriate, and one that also has a nice vocal rhythm as well. Consideration is given to the client’s natal name so that the new name resonates harmoniously with the original name.
There are doubts and ethical questions regarding the naming of a child by numbers alone. I personally will not pick a child’s name for inquiring parents to be. That is a matter between child and parents as far as I am concerned. I will give insight regarding potential names that parents may present to me. I will suggest possible variations of a name presented to me. I have on occasion made a suggestion.
Sometimes people want to load up on master numbers or choose possible combinations without seeing ego implications and the unconscious implications. Remember the old saying, “be careful about what you ask for”, because you may get it. When parents select a name numerologically, they usually do not see the unconscious nature of the selection they make. Later as the child gets older, there emerges certain patterns of behavior that comes back to disturb the parents right in their very own psychological blind spot.
I do believe that if you select a name numerologically, you will attract a soul seeking to act out that pattern. I did name my first child with specific numerological intent. With the second child, I was working toward a specific numerical combination when I came across a name that did not fit the numerical parameters. However, the name appealed to both my wife and I. We stayed with that selection and I never did get around to arranging the original numerical intent. Time will tell just how their story plays out.
As mentioned earlier, I personally believe the child impresses the name they want to have upon the parents to be. This ideal arrangement can be altered by ego conflicts with the incoming soul and some other altering factors. If the numerologist stays attuned to their own highest self, and to the higher self of all involved, then the numerologist can be a facilitator for the child and parents to reach the desired choice.
For calculating any name other than the natal name, I have contributed to numerology a different terminology that I feel gives a better indication of the meaning of secondary names.
